Allumi Inline, a tonic multi-colors display typeface
Allumi Inline is a new addition of the Allumi family.
It reaffirms by its design, a humanized technological and scientific universe. This variation of the Allumi is specifically intended for titling. Pushed to its limits, neither perfectly round nor geometrically square, the shapes of the Allumi Inline embody a human vision of the high-tech universe.
Concept of the Allumi Inline
The concept is is based upon an inline drawn in italic within a Roman shape. The result is a dynamic that plays on the optics and creates visual surprises. While a retro effect usually emerges in the Inline variants, the sloping design reinforces the idea of precision, of technological mastery of the Allumi Inline.
Designed in two standard and wide companions, Allumi inline is offered in five optical variants. The thicker lines (12pt) remains visible in small sizes even though they can be used in large sizes depending on your art direction.
A special tool for the Allumi Inline
Originally drawn in a traditional manner in 2017 at ZeCraft for our clients. In 2021, we did it better and easier. Instead of additionally hand drawing the italic, Joachim Vu conceptualized and wrote a script for use with Glyphs that allows you to add an internal italic to existing letters. Several parameters allow each one a fine adjustment: The horizontal and vertical thickness very useful to adapt the right modulation, according to the normal and extended version of Allumi. Then to add optical sizes versions. The setting of the italic is also useful, because depending on whether the shape of the letter is straight or round, the slope is different to remain visible.
When the result of this tool is applied, it remains sometimes to retouch such or such curve in complex forms as the b, the three, the pound. Then, to reconnect this slanted inline to the main shape according to the needs of the different decomposed layers which allows a varied color setting. Its how we’ve set up 5 layers in Allumi Inline (for a total of 42 fonts) that enables numerous color remixes. The arrows and geometric shapes provided are drawn with a slanted Inline as well.
Allumi Hairline
In addition, we added 8 new Hairline styles to the family. Allumi can be described as the Microgramma (designed by Alessandro Butti & Aldo Novarese in 1952) of the new century, mixed with Frutiger (designed by Adrian Frutiger in 1973 for the Roissy Airport). A certain robustness and power emerge, defining a style that evokes a contemporary vision of the future.
The Allumi Hairline is the result of a project started by ZeCraft a few years ago with Mathieu Réguer and Jean François Porchez. Taken over a little less than a year ago within Typofonderie, it is Élodie Tourbier who has brilliantly led the project to its end. These new very fine weights are particularly suitable for large sizes uses. With a very constructed and fluid design, the use of Allumi Inline Hairline allows you to assert a precision in your designs.

Allumi Inline and Allumi Hairline digital exclusive PRO fonts includes extended language support, various sets of numerals, lowercases (not in Inline), small caps (not in Inline), capitals, alternates, dingbats, etc. The newfonts in OpenType format are also available in Web and others format.
